Reading an article Barb passed along about must-have features in new homes, I was surprised by what I was found. If I had to guess what the 10 "must-have" features in a new house would be, I wouldn't have been able to hit on a solid third of what's in this list.
Gone are the days of bigger meaning better, when home ownership was at least partly about showing off, or making a statement. What really gets me about this is the over-arching theme of family. Among talk of wine grottos, granite counter tops, and claw-footed tubs; even in the talk of what floor the Master should be on (boy, did my husband and I have some words on that particular topic), what I'm really reading here is that we're moving away from the focus on what the outside world thinks of us, and focusing more on how we're actually living our lives. With the people closest to us, with the things in life that matter. How about that.
